Dissociation within Society

The podcast The Moth shares heartfelt stories to an audience. The podcasts being highlighted called Opposing Forces talks about Martha Ruiz Perilla who was living in Columbia working as a dental student. She was held at gunpoint and forced to operate surgery on a boy with her life on the line.

Hospital rooms are a place where lives are saved, ironically, it is where Martha might end up losing her own life. My concept was focused on the anxiety Martha felt being put in this life-and-death situation. As the moment unfolds, the scenes start to get more surreal and start feeling like a fever dream.

Style and Color Reference

The lighting of the scene follows the drop of sweat that runs down Martha’s face. The light glistens and blurs the lens making it appear dreamlike. The color of the scene takes inspiration from psychedelic art and uses saturated and distorted designs.

Story Board

This concept uses a single drop of sweat on her forehead as a framing device to convey her anxiety. As we delve deeper into the droplet, it functions as a crystal ball, offering glimpses of her experiences through a surreal, fever-dream-like state with eventually turns into a bubble.
